Welcome to Port Douglas, Australia
Port Douglas is 40 miles North of Cairns, and about
1700 miles North of Sydney. The main attraction is the
small romantic resort community and the proximity
to the Great Barrier Reef. There is no other place
like it on earth. It combines modern convenience with
unspoiled beauty. For more info on Port Douglas try the
Port Douglas Visitor's Bureau Home Page.
Beautiful Beaches
This is one of the several beaches on the road between
Cairns and Port Douglas. The drive was one of the most
beautiful I have ever been on. Twisting winding roads with
the Rainforest on one side and large stretches of beach on
the other. Port Douglas has Four Mile Beach which
is unforgetable, you can get your sun near other people or
you can find yourself a secluded spot to have all to yourself.
Great Barrier Reef,
Port Douglas is the closest port to the reef and attracts
divers from all over the world. I did two dives where I
had visibility of 150 feet and a water temperature of
80 degrees. The reef is also teeming with life: Sea
Turtles, Coral, Giant Cod, Barramundi, Reef Sharks,
and lots of other creatures. Lucky for the divers, the
jellyfish stay near the beach and away from the reef.
Cheers
Here's a couple of our australian friends (Peter
and Julie) from
Melbourne. Australians love socializing and are
some the most friendly people on the planet.
