Welcome to Maui
Maui was our first stop. We stayed in the Kaanapali Resort area which
is a nice grouping of hotels all interconnected with a Tiki lit walkway.
Maui was our favorite Hawaiian Island of the three we have been to.
The Classic Luau We went to a Luau in the
old whaling town of Lahaina. This was said to be the most authentic Luau on
the island. In the picture they are removing the roasted pig from the earth
oven which was cooked the entire day after being wrapped in banana leaves
and burried in the ground with hot coals.
The meat is very tender and has a smokey taste to it.
The road to Hana This is a 4 hour drive
to a destination that is not very exciting. However, the road to Hana is fascinating.
With several stops for waterfalls and overlooks. You can see the winding road if you
look closely in the picture.
Wai-anapanapa State Park One of the stops
on the way to Hana. The sand at that beach is actually black and is a product of
volcanic rock. Another great beach worth stopping at on the road
to Hana is Hamoa beach (a reddish white beach), which has been used in the filming of several movies.
